What is the Fat Master’s Challenge?
The story goes several brothers, one being the Fat Master of the Lodge, gathered together having beer and wings watching football. After feasting until pants needed to be loosed, the Master said, “Did you ever notice that the only skinny Freemasons are the new guys?” His Senior Warden laughed and said, “Not true but I think we all have put on a few pounds doing this.” The new Senior Steward laughed, “I have no idea what you are talking about, and I’m still new here!” Remembering back to when the two older Mason’s served in the military, they thought they should try to get back in shape together. Several ideas were tossed about, a Tough Mudder was considered but the thought of being electrocuted while crawling in the mud was something no one wanted, except maybe the Senior Steward, but they let that go. The Senior Warden came up with: The Fat Master’s Challenge. The Master always wanted to try something like this and said, “It’s in August, I can commit to training for 6 months. So can you guys. Let’s make it a team event and open it up to anyone that wants to train and lose weight.” Another idea came to them; why not try to be Charitable while having fun? So two charities came to mind: The Brotherhood fund and The Newton Dyslexia Center. So the three men began to spread the word about the event and raising funds for two great causes.
